The Challenge
Encompass Mining was approached to undertake an order of magnitude style study for a chromite deposit located in Madagascar. The clients goal was to develop a small mining operation by leveraging off the recent successful drilling programme undertaken.
Our Approach
A block model was constructed using the provided geological dataset with an initial pit optimisation process undertaken. The Deswik pit optimisation software was utilised test a number of financial scenarios. The optimal pit shell was then selected with high level designs then completed. Mine schedules were then produced using the latest SPRY scheduling software with dig and dump simulations further optimised. Mining costs and capital costs were then estimated with high level financial modelling undertaken.
Results
The study identified a viable contract mining operation with minimal capital outlay. Key project risks were identified and presented to the client.
